Joanna & Duncan – Mar Lodge Estate | Braemar

Joanna and Duncan chose the idyllic setting of Mar Lodge in the Scottish Highlands for their winter wedding. Picture a beautiful, grand Victorian hunting lodge, add snow, some log fires, cosy interiors and around 100 of your favourite friends and family and you have yourself a wonderful winter wedding!

The day began in the bridal suite which looked out onto some truly stunning scenery. While the bridal party got ready, the men went out to play in the snow with the family dogs. I have to say – I like their style. When the time came, Joanna and Duncan chose to have their ‘first look’ in the bridal suite and it was pretty special. Joanna looked stunning in a simple two-piece while Duncan wore some tartan trews complete with a dicky bow.

The couple got married in the white drawing room looking out over the snow surrounded by their friends and family. It was pretty blooming perfect. Afterwards, they managed to brave the freezing conditions and we got some lovely outdoor shots. There was one particular hilarious moment which stuck in my mind. I had asked Duncan to throw the end of Joanna’s veil up in the air so the wind could catch it. I’m not sure if he misheard me or he is just a man of brute strength but the veil was thrown high up into the air – no longer attached to Joanna’s head! I think we all had sore faces from laughing so much.

Joanna and Duncan’s border terrier Reggie also made an appearance for the photographs and a special mention should be given to Joanna’s yellow shoes with the fur pom poms – they survived the conditions!

The dinner tables were beautifully decorated and a ‘wee nip’, in keeping with Scottish tradition, was given as favours to each of the guests.  It was an amazing day from start to finish.
